Newark and Sherwood District Council encourage people to sign up to the government’s flood warning system

Authorities are urging people to sign up to the government's flood alert system.

"We are closely monitoring rising water levels across Newark and Sherwood," said a spokesman from the Newark and Sherwood District Council.

The service is free and gives residents flood warnings for their area when they sign up.

The system gives residents a warning which could help save lives and property.
