Ollerton resident nominated as Advertiser’s Citizen Of The Week after baking for those in need

A selfless resident who has been giving away baked goods to those in need has been nominated as the Advertiser’s Citizen Of The Week.

Alice Brazier, 64, of Ollerton, was nominated by friend Diane Blower, who said despite not being in the best of health herself, Alice continuously helped others and inspired them to be kind.

“She works for hours in the charity shop for the Furniture Project, but with this currently being closed she has been baking for hours and hours a day, making pies, cakes and scones,” said Diane.

Diane said Alice had given away countless baked goods for free to those in need over the past few weeks.

She highlighted it was not the first caring deed by Alice, who, last year, helped another Ollerton resident, Pat Whitehead, 76, complete a bucket list moment as they took a journey on a motorcycle trike.

“Pat died on May 1, and this has left Alice heartbroken, but despite this she has carried on baking and feeding those in need for free,” said Diane.

“I know this would mean the world to her and its people like this who give me hope and faith that there really are some beautiful souls out there.

“She never thinks about herself and the community of Ollerton are in awe of her.

“She inspires us all to be kinder and more considerate.”

Alice, who lost count of how many cornflake tarts, pies and pastries she had baked, said: “It has been keeping me out of mischief.

“I make things for anyone who wants it. A lot of people are on their own during lockdown and it is my gift to them.

“If I can put a smile on their face I have done my job.”
