Band in bid to break record
The landlord of a village pub has formed a band in a bid to break a world record by playing the most venues in 12 hours.
They will be collecting donations for Beaumond House Community Hospice, Newark.
Mr Maurice Crookes (45) of The Grey Horse Inn, Collingham, and four friends are planning to perform at 50 pubs in the Newark area next month in the hope of making it into the book of Guinness World Records. The current record stands at 30 venues and was set by a Cornish rock band in August.
The band, called Booze Brothers, includes guitarists Mr David Manley (51) of Westbrook Lane, Collingham, Mr Richard Biggin (34) of Woodhill Road, Collingham, Mr Tony Millward also of Woodhill Road, Collingham, and Mr Colin Guppy of Swinderby Road, Collingham.
They play a range of styles, including blues, rock and pop.
Mr Crookes, who is the lead singer, said it was the first time they had played together as a band and he was looking forward to it.
He said they hoped to get a representative from Guinness World Records to record the number of venues.
The route has yet to be agreed but the band will start at noon on November 22 and play until midnight, ending at The Grey Horse.
Mr Crookes said: “We’ll play as a whole band but we’ll also do some duets and solos to give ourselves a break. We’re hoping to do 40 or 50 venues.”
