Bargain Hunt’s James Lewis hosts Bingham U3A antiques quiz

A packed church hall was treated to an antiques quiz hosted by a Bargain Hunt star.

Bingham U3A held the quiz at the Methodist Church Hall on April 30, and after an introductory welcome from chairman Veronica Perry attendees were presented with a variety of historic objects.

They had to quickly attempt to identify, date, decide on country of origin, and the value of each of the ten objects.

James Lewis, of Bargain Hunt and Bamfords Auctioneers, then gave detailed answers, interesting facts and amusing anecdotes about each object, followed by an auction for each item.

The objects ranged between £10 and £2,000 in value — and included a snuff grinder once used by Oliver Cromwell, a wooden railway engine used as a tea caddy, a Roman gladiator’s metal thumb protector, and a currency piece from the 1645 siege of Newark. A prize was given to the table closest to James’ answers.
