BBC Four programme Canal Boat Diaries showcases Newark as host navigates River Trent
Newark is being showcased in a new BBC series about the River Trent.
The BBC4 series, Canal Boat Diaries, follows host Robbie Cummings as he navigates the Trent.
Episode three shows him stopping off in Newark on the Lincoln to Nottingham leg of his journey.
He is seen visiting Newark’s Christmas market to buy decorations for his boat.
The Newark Heritage Barge, the Leicester Trader owned by Mr Les Reid is also shown on the episode and Les is filmed waving at the camera as the boat passes.
Cummings described the boat museum as: “Trent river barges like this one called Leicester Trader once carried everything from tobacco leaves to cement between the Humber ports and the city of Nottingham.”
Cumming spent a few days in Newark before continuing his journey. He considered getting to the town through the Trent tough old journey.
The 29 minute episode is available now on BBC iPlayer.
