Students at The Studio at Averham will perform Alice in Wonderland at Suthers School in Fernwood

Students at a ballet school will be performing a beloved classic with over 150 years.

The Studio at Averham has announced an Alice in Wonderland performance at Suthers School in Fernwood.

The show is set to take place on July 27, with doors opening at 3.30pm and the start at 4pm.

Principal of the studio Christina Phillips-Kelly said: “This year’s production of Alice in Wonderland is far removed from our usual classical ballet show.

“That’s not to say there is no ballet involved, however, the students have been allowed the freedom to explore other dance genres which blend with our classical ballet technique.

“It’s been wonderful to watch the characters grow over time, and to see the enjoyment on the students faces, they have revelled in this wacky, fun filled show. Their imagination has been inspiring to watch.

“Usually ballets are classical and full of complex choreography which can be a challenge if you're new to dance.

“Alice in Wonderland is a perfect show to transition from beginner to intermediate, whilst learning acting skills that are usually left to musical theatre students.”

Christina said she chose Alice in Wonderland because the school has been welcoming new and younger students who are new to ballet and it seemed fitting.

The performance will include a variety of characters, from the sword-fighting mouse to the smoking caterpillar and talking flowers.

“The excitement is growing as we get closer to show day, and I’m thrilled to share this wonderful production with friends and family,” Christine added.

“It promises to be a visually stunning and imaginative production, a show full of whimsy and wonder that would indeed be a joy to watch.”

Adults ticket cost £16.50, children between the age of six and 16 £7.50, children under five £3.50 and adults over 65 £10.
