Lorna Marie Fitness’ annual Big Christmas Food Collection returns to Lowdham Village Hall in aid of Arnold Foodbank
A fitness instructor’s annual Christmas food drive is back once again, after successfully collecting a tonne of goods for a foodbank last year.
Lorna Bell, of Lorna Marie Fitness, will host the food drive at Lowdham Village Hall on December 7, in aid of Arnold Foodbank.
Lorna said: “This time of year can be especially hard for families, so we wanted to come together as a community to support those who might be struggling. The Christmas Food Collection is a way for us all to give back while also enjoying some time together.
“The response last year was incredible. We managed to collect a huge amount of food — literally a tonne of food — thanks to everyone who took part. It really shows the strength and kindness of our local community.”
The hall will be open from 8.30 to 10am for donations to be dropped off, and Lorna will also host a free, fun fitness class for everyone who wants to attend at 8.45am to 9.30am — with just a bag of food for the foodbank asked for in exchange for the class.
“It’s a great chance to do something good for the body and for the community,” added Lorna.
“The Lorna Marie Fitness community has such a big heart. We’re not just here for fitness, we’re here to support each other and give back. This food drive is a reflection of that and it’s inspiring to see everyone come together for such a meaningful cause."
“Our Online Squad is all about lifting each other up and this annual food drive is a way for us to extend that support to the wider community. Giving back together feels incredible and we’re so grateful to do our part for local families again this year".
“We couldn't do it without, not just our squaddies, but our local community. Please come down, bring a bag or few, stay for the fitness class if you fancy it and let's help families in need at this time of year. Please come and help us spread the joy.”
Members of Central Notts Scouts will also help with the collection.
Items needed by foodbanks include food such as tinned or packet soup, tinned pasta and beans, tinned or packet potatoes, rice, pasta, noodles, sauces for rice or pasta, tinned fruit and vegetables, tinned fish, cereal, carton fruit juice or squash, tea bags and instant coffee, UHT or powdered milk, individually wrapped biscuits, chocolates and sweets.
Other items which can be donated include toiletries — such as soap, toothpaste, deodorant, and disposable razors — and household items such as washing up liquid, washing powder, cooking oil, baby items and tinned pet food.
