Big Newark Sleep Out 2023 raises over £16,000 for YMCA Newark and Sherwood, Newark Emmaus Trust and Shawmind to support homeless
A charity sleepout has raised thousands of pounds for good causes.
A grand total of £16,426.39 was raised for the Big Newark Sleep Out which took place in March.
Despite temperature dropping as low as -3C, dozens took part in the event, which raised money for the YMCA Newark and Sherwood, Newark Emmaus Trust and Shawmind.
The sleep out aimed to raise awareness of the hardships rough-sleepers face.
Peter Wingrove of Shawmind, said: “On behalf of the 3 beneficiary charities, Shawmind, Newark Emmaus Trust and YMCA Newark & Sherwood, we are incredibly grateful for the commitment shown by our community in raising this phenomenal amount for the plight of the homeless this year.
“Thank you to everyone that participated on the 10th March and braved the cold to experience, just for one night, what it feels like to sleep rough.”
Buttercross Estates sponsored the event which was held at the YMCA.
