I am writing in support of Faith Tacey (Faith To Take Biker Campaign To The Top, Advertiser, September 13) and congratulate her in her campaign for compulsory protective clothing for motorcyclists.
I have ridden pillion behind my husband for more than 30 years and we always wear the correct clothing, but often see riders wearing shorts and T-shirts. Our saying is: “Another one exempt from gravel rash.”
In this week’s MCN (Motorcycle News) editorial writer Andy Calton was criticised by a reader for his endorsement of wearing protective clothing, saying: “I frequently ride in shorts and a T-shirt in summer months.
I value the freedom to do so. I’ve been riding for 50 years. I think I can decide what’s best for me.”
Well done Faith and I wish you every success in your campaign. —
