Bogus workmen target homes
Residents in Ollerton are being warned about letting strangers into their homes after distraction burglaries in Yew Tree Close and Alder Grove.
At both addresses on Friday night, a man knocked on the front door before letting himself in.
He claimed to be from a water company and asked the residents for access to the gas and water.
He was joined by two other men who entered the house as he pretended to get his identity card from a blue Transit-type van outside.
Inspector Andy Gan, of Ollerton Police, said: “I would urge all residents to be vigilant against this type of burglary. Do not let anyone into your house without a valid identity card.
“If they claim to be from a company, such as the water board, ask them to wait outside so you can contact the company to verify if they have anyone working in the area.
“If you are still concerned, contact a friend or relative to ask them to help you to identify them or call your local police team.”
The men were all smartly dressed and spoke with local accents.
The first man wore a dark baseball cap, light blue shirt and dark trousers. The second was wearing a blue and white shirt and navy trousers, while the third was wearing a brown shirt.
One of the men was large and may have walked with a limp.
Anyone who saw the men in the area between 5.30pm and 7.30pm should contact the Police on 0300 300 9999, or Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
