A616 Great North Road, Newark, set for major resurfacing and patching repairs
A major road which has sparked complaints for severe potholes will be resurfaced next month.
Part of the A616 Great North Road, Newark, will be resurfaced in August, and another stretch repaired with structural patching.
Motorists have previously called for the road to be resurfaced, describing the pothole-ridden road as a “bone rattler” which “bounced and jostled” drivers around.
A highways manager from Nottinghamshire County Council said: “Major surface improvement works are due to be carried out on the A616 Great North Road in Newark in August, starting from August 12 and scheduled to run for three weeks.
“Diversion routes and lane closures will be in place throughout the duration of the works to secure the safety of motorists and road users and ensure efficient traffic management.”
Resurfacing will be carried out along the stretch of the A616 from the A46 Cattle Market roundabout to the mini roundabout Sugar Beet Factory entrance.
Structural patching will be carried out from the mini roundabout at Sugar Beet Factory entrance to the A616 Ollerton Road junction.
The highways manager added: “The renewal of the existing carriageway will include resurfacing, which involves removing the existing road kerb to kerb from point A to B, while structural patching will repair isolated areas.
“Large-scale patch repairs are part of the county council’s 2024 to 2025 Highways Capital Programme, which received an extra £4million in February, on top of the £29million investment, to go towards improving some of the county’s busiest roads, and the council’s four-year Highways Improvement Plan which includes the aims to reduce the need to use reactive short-term maintenance, maintain the road network condition and seek to improve it within financial constraints and to publish a longer-term programme of capital works to keep residents informed of future plans.”
Work will take place nightly from 8pm to 6am.
During periods of closure a diversion route will be in place following the A46 from Cattle Market Roundabout to Brownhills Roundabout, Winthorpe Interchange, A1, Great North Road Roundabout, to B6352 Great North Road.
