Gruffalo-inspired adventure at Parkgate Academy, Ollerton




A purpose-built preschool has opened at the Parkgate Academy, Ollerton, for children aged two and three.

The centre offers indoor and outdoor facilities to help youngsters with their early learning.

Mrs Amanda Clifford, the nursery and preschool lead, said: “It has been a pleasure and an honour to be at the start of this wonderful adventure and to see the children’s eager faces each day.”

Creatively, the children have brought Elmer the elephant to life using their own ideas by recycling plastic milk containers to create the character based on the popular children’s book.

Outside, there are plans for a Gruffalo-inspired adventure area.

As well as play-based activities, including a home corner where youngsters can feed their imagination, children are encouraged to learn the sign of the week, which is fundamental Makaton and offers an important, alternative way of communication,

As part of the government’s childcare initiative for two year olds, funding is available subject to eligibility. In addition to this, private places are also available.
