Parkgate Academy, New Ollerton, junior town councillors raise more than £1,000 for Queen’s Medical Centre children’s ward
A school’s junior town councillors have raised more than £1,000 for a hospital ward.
To coincide with World Book Day, the junior town councillors at Parkgate Academy, New Ollerton, held a pre-loved book sale to raise funds, and also organised a chocolate-themed raffle with more than forty Easter eggs as prizes.
After both events, their fundraising total stood at £1,018.54.
As Parkgate Academy has recently been awarded accreditation as an ‘asthma friendly school’ the junior town councillors voted to donate the money to the children’s respiratory ward at Queen’s Medical Centre in Nottingham.
The funds will now go towards buying vital equipment for the ward, where many children are hospitalised with acute asthma.
In assembly, the young councillors presented a king-size cheque to Fern Sewell, paediatric respiratory nurse specialist at QMC, and Michaelle Dorman, relationship events manager at QMC.
Michelle said: “Thank you to everyone at the Parkgate Academy for raising such a huge amount of money which will help Nottingham Hospitals Charity ensure that patient care in the Nottingham Hospitals is the best it can be.
“Thank you so much.”
The junior town councillors also received a VIP tour of the Queen’s Medical Centre, in recognition of their fundraising efforts, which included lunch in the roof top garden and a tour of the children’s departments.
