Newark Youth Trust donates competition boxing gloves to Suggy’s Champions Foundation and Newark Amateur Boxing Club

Aspiring young boxers have been presented with brand-new competition boxing gloves by a charity dedicated to improving the lives of young people.

In previous years, Suggy’s Champions Foundation and Newark Amateur Boxing Club hired competition gloves from the East Midlands Region for Boxing for their home shows, but due to changes in the committee structure, that was no longer an option.

Following the news, Newark Youth Trust representatives, Malcolm Ellison and his wife Elaine, gifted a number of pairs of the gloves to the aspiring young boxers at Suggy’s Gym.

The new gloves are designed to support safe and professional-standard training and bouts, and allow aspiring young boxers to develop their skills in a safe, encouraging and supportive environment.

Suggy’s were presented with the new gloves by on Saturday.

Dean Sugden, the club’s head coach, said: “These gloves mean our club can continue to put on shows for our boxers and local community.

“The new rules from EB (England Boxing) state we can hire these gloves but must purchase them.

“They will last us a few years and will also look after our boxers as they wear new gloves as opposed to old ones, which could increase the chances of injury.

“[We] can’t thank Newark Youth Trust enough for their continued support of our club and young boxers who work hard in and out of the ring and are all well respected in our community."

Suggy’s Champions Foundation wants to ensure that investment in youth development and community remains at the heart of their mission.

The foundation, founded to support young athletes and drive community engagement through Boxing, continues to expand its reach through partnerships, highlighting how grassroots initiatives like this can inspire the next generation of sporting talent.

The gloves will see their first outing on Friday (December 5) at Farndon Memorial Hall on the first home show of the season for Suggy’s Champions Foundation and Newark Amateur Boxing Club.

Those interested in supporting the boxers and attending the show can buy tickets either directly from the boxers of Suggy’s Gym on Castlegate, Newark.
