Brave bunny discovered fly-tipped in Southwell by Nottinghamshire Police Inspector finds a new home
A brave bunny callously thrown out with a fly-tip has found a loving home.
The lop-eared rabbit was discovered by an off-duty police officer while he was out running in February.
Inspector Marcus Oldroyd, of Nottinghamshire Police, said he found the fluffy pet cowering and shivering among bags of dumped rubbish in Southwell that included a damaged pet carrier and old mattresses.
"It was clearly a pet and had been callously thrown out as part of a fly-tipping episode," said Inspector Oldroyd.
"The poor little thing must have been terrified, especially in the recent weather conditions.
"The RSPCA said to me that clearly the rabbit had been neglected and was well under-nourished."
The rabbit was underweight, had some issues with his teeth and had fur missing on his legs. This suggested he had been kept in a dirty environment and was laying in his own urine for long periods of time.
Inspector Oldroyd said the news of the bunny being rehomed brightened his day.
Inspector Heather Sutton, district commander for Newark and Sherwood, said: "I was sickened to hear what happened and we all know it's clearly not acceptable to treat an animal in this way.
"We'd like to find out who this rabbit belonged to and take action against them.
"If you can help please call 101 with any information, quoting incident 457 of February 11, 2020."
