Newark Hospital volunteers raise £2,500 from gift stall to bring breast services' fundraising appeal to £20,000

An appeal to help provide a one-stop symptomatic breast clinic at Newark Hospital has reached its half-way point, thanks to a £2,500 donation.

Newark Hospital volunteers have raised £2,500 from a fundraising gift stall, bringing the hospital’s breast services fundraising appeal to £20,000 so far.

The appeal was launched in November to raise £40,000 to help equip the clinic.

Charity trustee Paul Robinson, who accepted the cheque on behalf of Sherwood Forest Hospitals Charity, said: “It is brilliant that we have managed to raise so much for the appeal in such a short space of time.

“I would like to take this opportunity to thank our volunteers and the general public for their continued help, support and generosity.

“This unit will really make a difference to the people of Newark and the surrounding areas, so I’m so pleased that the fundraising is going so well.”

The appeal is for a one-stop symptomatic breast clinic, which will be run at the Women’s Centre at Newark Hospital .

It will mean that patients who are referred by their GP for specialist opinion and assessment will be able to be seen at Newark Hospital.

Patients will receive a consultation with a breast specialist clinician, have a mammogram, ultrasound scans and even a biopsy all taken on the same day, with results then expected within a few days.

The clinic will be partly funded by the trust’s charitable funds. The £40,000 being raised through the appeal will cover the cost of a biopsy chair, trolley and two ultrasound probes for the clinic, which is due to open later this spring.

Sherwood Forest Hospitals Trust provides acute healthcare services for 420,000 people, including at Newark Hospital, where more than 21,000 patients were seen and treated at the urgent care centre last year.

In August 2018 the trust was awarded a good rating by the Care Quality Commission with the caring domain rated outstanding.

Anyone wanting to make a donation to the breast services fundraising appeal can visit in person or post it to the community involvement office at Newark Hospital on Boundary Road, visit the appeal’s Just Giving Site at www.justgiving.com/sher woodforest or text SFHC19 to 70070 to donate £5 or £10.
