Hannah Blinko HairStylist has won the East Midlands Wedding Hairstylist of the Year award at the Wedding Industry Awards
After being named as the top wedding hair stylist in the East Midlands, a Newark hairdresser is in line to be the best in the country.
Hannah Blinko HairStylist won the East Midlands Wedding Hairstylist of the Year award at the Wedding Industry Awards, and is now in the final with seven other regional winners hoping to be named the national winner.
Hannah’s hair career began as a stylist at the former SAKS salon in Paxton’s Court, Newark. When it closed, she saw it as the perfect opportunity to go self-employed.
She began doing cuts and colours from her home in Spire Gardens, but had a change of plan after she realised she was allergic to hair dye.
She said: “I’d always planned to go into bridal hair, but I wanted to do it properly by going out on my own.”
Hannah began with just one or two clients a year, and has gone on to style hundreds of brides and wedding parties.
She said her favourite style to create for brides is a loose up-do with a whimsical twist.
Hannah always tries to get to know her brides before their wedding.
She said: “It’s best to find out their dislikes first as some won’t want their hair up or pulled off their face.
“Plus if they have a bohemian-themed wedding, they will need hair to match.“
Hannah applied for the awards last year, but didn’t win so she was in two minds about applying again this year.
But she decided to go for it and, at the awards, held at the Pumping House, Ollerton, Hannah was announced the winner in her category.
She said both she and her husband Phil cried happy tears when her name was called out.
“I honestly wasn’t expecting to win. There were others in the category who I thought would win but when my name was called out I was so shocked,” she said.
The finals will take place on January 15 at Cafe de Paris in London’s Leicester Square, where the winners will be chosen by industry experts.
