THE news that one of Newark’s major employers has set up a language academy to teach English is another clear indicator of the town’s growing multi-culturalism.
Much is made of the number of illegal immigrants making their way to this country, dodging the rules and regulations and staying out of the system.
Here we have the contrast, with hard-working people trying to better themselves and integrate in the area where they’ve chosen to make a fresh start.
One of the major keys to integration is learning the language.
Lauren’s Patisseries should be applauded for its intitiative.
Newark has a long association with the Polish community in particular. The Polish war graves in the town cemetery are a clear example of that.
What we are seeing now is an extension of that with more eastern Europeans choosing to settle here.
Although there will be those who choose not to accept their right to be here, those at Lauren’s and others, have come to work.
If they work they contribute to society through their taxes.
