Youngsters at a primary school have been producing their own newspaper.

Pupils at Halam Primary School do interviews, write reports and take photographs for their paper the Halam Scoop.

The newspaper was the idea of year six pupil Grace Fynn, 10. Here, she explains what inspired her to launch the project:

Grace said: “Every good school should have an amazing newspaper. That’s what I decided in the summer of 2012.

“I wanted a newspaper for my school so that the pupils know what is going on, so I went with some of my friends to Mrs Bradbury our head teacher to ask her about the newspaper. She said it was a great idea.

“We spend what seemed like forever decided what it was going to be called and who wanted to help but eventually we came up with the Halam Scoop.

“The regular features are Lottie’s Story, sports, a book review, jokes and also current news.

“A year and a half later I became a year six and editor. My friend Brogan Hancock is sub-editor and together we have published about five newspapers with an amazing team of writers.

“We have a meeting every Thursday.

“We have started getting quicker and better.

“Our Halam Scoop writers are Toby Straw, 11, Anna, French, 10, Frankie Marson, 10, Brogan Hancock, 10, Lottie Guy, 10, Max Brown, 10, Daniel Francis, 9, Maddie Swain, 9, and Hannah Marshell, 9.

“Thanks a lot to them for their hard work.

“We have learnt a lot and hope our newspaper carries on.”
