100th Flintham show at Shelton, near Newark, offered bumper entertainment and attracted large crowds
The organisers of Flintham Show welcomed large crowds in its centenary year.
"The show is looking busier than we anticipated which is a welcome sight," committee member Adrian Handbury said yesterday.
"It is great to see people coming back with a vengeance after covid.
"It is our 100th show so we wanted it to be a great event for people.
"The big draw this year is the Atkinson Horses, it's an attraction where the riders and the horses work together to do stunts."
Ben Atkinson and his team of action horses were welcomed to the main ring at the venue in Shelton by an adoring crowd.
Ben has previously been featured on BBC’s Poldark and Peaky Blinders alongside many other TV shows, films and live events around the UK.
The horse show was spectacular and a big hit with local schoolchildren.
Flintham Show is steeped in tradition, and in keeping with that, featured traditional horse and tractor ploughing competitions — a spectacle that started the show over 100 years ago.
Vintage, classic, and modern tractors took part together with seven horse ploughing teams.
"The original show was a horse ploughing competition," said Mr Handbury.
"The show was originally started after a bet between two farmers in the Boot and Shoe Pub in the village of Flintham."
Visitors to the show enjoyed browsing a variety of trade stands and stalls, viewed cattle and sheep, visited the horticultural marque, and sampled the many food and drink options that were available.
The show also featured competitions from livestock judging to home baking and photography.
"It is an excellent day, we are enjoying ourselves and bought our dogs along," said John Chatterton from Shelford.
"The weather is lovely and the event is well organised."
The Flintham show will now be gearing up for its 101st event next year.
