Southwell Town Council objects to changes to firewood business at Norwood Park Farm, off Halam Road

There was little debate as a town council objected to changes to a firewood business in Southwell.

Southwell Town Council unanimously objected to plans by applicant Mr H Starkey, which would change the use of land to site a retort to support an existing firewood business at Norwood Park Farm, off Halam Road.

Peter Scorer, chairman of Southwell's planning committee, said that due to its location, visibility and air quality, the council would object.

A member of Southwell Civic Society echoed the comments.

She said: "This application is for an industrial manufacturing plant for the production of charcoal. It has no place in this rural situation.

"This application makes no use of existing buildings or well-designed new buildings.

"It is simply an industrial piece of kit situated at the front of a historic farm house."

Newark and Sherwood District Council will have the final say.
