Business backs litter picking
More than 30 businesses have said that they would be willing to be involved in a US-style litter-picking scheme in Newark.
The idea was first raised at the June meeting of Newark Business Club by Mr David Parton, a self-employed business coach from Church Lane, Sibthorpe.
He was concerned about the growing litter problem along the A46 and suggested a solution could be to copy a scheme operating in the US where groups of businesses, churches, residents and families were involved in helping clear mile-long stretches of road four times a year.
He told a meeting of the business club on Friday that he thought he might get responses from about five or six businesses so was delighted that more than 30 had said they were interested in being involved.
He said that he and county councillor Mr Keith Girling met Newark and Sherwood District Council officers to discuss the idea.
He said when they were told about the level of support the district council was excited about the idea.
Mr Parton said they were hoping to start a pilot scheme for parts of the A46 and promised to keep members updated on progress.
