New pop-up shop on Chain Lane, Newark sells decorative items and Christmas-themed products

A woman has swapped over 30 years of fair stalls for a pop-up decoration and gift shop in a town centre.

Maggie Ormston, of Newark, has opened a pop-up shop on 14 Chain Lane, Newark, which will only be open until the end of the year (December 31).

Maggie has been a stallholder at Country Living fairs since the late 1990s, starting at the big London one, before the fairs expanded across the country.

In 2023, Maggie and her husband, John Ormston, held their last fair together, and the stock has been stored at the couple’s home ever since.

When the opportunity to temporarily rent the shop on Chain Lane came up, Maggie decided it was time to open her first-ever physical shop, even if only for three months.

The business owner said: “I came round to the fact that, yes, I needed to do something.

“I've been used to setting up stands at big fairs, so that helped a lot when putting things together in the shop.

“We have had very positive feedback from people so far, so hopefully it will only get better from here.”

The shop stocks a range of items, from small and large all-year-round decorative items, Christmas-themed items, and handmade cards.

The shop will be open Tuesday to Saturday from 10am until 4.30pm.
