Queens Road and Lovers Lane, Newark, set for resurfacing

A busy town centre road is set to be resurfaced after being allowed to settle post sinkhole repairs.

Part of Queen’s Road, Newark, between the Northgate junction and mini roundabout at King’s Road, is to be resurfaced in August as part of Nottinghamshire County Council’s major programme of resurfacing works for 2024-25.

The road reopened in February following a lengthy closure due to a major sinkhole caused by a damaged Victorian culvert, and time was needed for the road surface to settle before the resurfacing could be carried out.

Part of Lover’s Lane will also be resurfaced as part of the scheme.

A highways manager from Nottinghamshire County Council said: “We’re pleased to let residents know that we will be resurfacing areas of Queen’s Road and Lover’s Lane next month as part of our major programme of resurfacing works across the county.

“The works will take place over three nights, starting on Tuesday, August 27, between 8pm and 6am to minimise disruption to the travelling public.

“Following the reopening in February, there needed to be a period for the road to be trafficked, allowing the road surface to settle.

“Details of the approved 2024-25 maintenance programme can be viewed at the Notts Highways website.”

Diversions will be in place during the works.

For Queen’s Road, the diversion will follow Bargate, Lombard Street, London Road, Sherwood Avenue, Friary Road and vice versa, and for Lover’s Lane following George Street and Appletongate and vice versa.
