Artisan butcher and baker, The Country Victualler, Tuxford, to supply Christmas meats to Harrods and in its Nottinghamshire shop
An award-winning butchers which has been established for over 40 years is bringing Harrods quality to the county.
The Country Victualler, and it’s parent company Maloney’s, have been established in Tuxford for over 40 years, supplying both the community and London’s prestigious foodhalls with everything from hams to the ‘Nottinghamshire sausage’.
Premium butcher and baker The Country Victualler was founded in 1973 by Richard Craven-Smith-Milnes and his wife, and after his retirement over ten years ago was taken on by Maloney’s, a Nottinghamshire based butchers founded by Mike Maloney in 1979.
Now, Mike’s daughter Alison is at the helm of the business — which has both an online shop and a pod store at it’s premises on Ashvale Road, Tuxford.
It is currently approaching a busy Christmas period during which it will supply top-quality hams for Harrod’s Foodhall Christmas range.
Alison said: “The Country Victualler had already supplied Harrods before, and they approached us again this year to design a range of hams for their Christmas line and hampers.
“We’ve been working with them since summer.”
The artisan butchers has also supplied it’s produce to Fortnum and Mason, Partridges of Sloane Street, and even Wimbledon.
Customers won’t have to travel to London to get their fix of luxury Christmas meats and other produce, however, as the pod and online shop offers a range of Christmas poultry, hams and accompaniments.
“The hams and pork pies are really popular at Christmas, we’ve just won a gold award for our pork pies,” Alison added.
“We have all the same hams and products in Tuxford, and we use free-range Packington pork from Staffordshire.”
Its dry cured streaky bacon has also won a gold award.
The pod, which was set up two years ago, continues to go from strength to strength, and has attracted customers from places including Nottingham and Sheffield.
Alison said: “I think it’s quite unique in that it’s just a little pod at our main unit, so customers trust that the product is authentic and they can see it has been made by us, just out the back.
“Customers can get Harrods standard right here in Tuxford.”
The butchers also produces the first ‘Nottinghamshire sausage’ created by Mike Maloney in response to a Radio Nottingham challenge.
The original recipe featured Sherwood Forest venison, Bramley apples, and local pork — and the sausage is now widely served in Nottinghamshire’s schools.
