All Mine Cakes in Maythorne, near Southwell, raises vital funds towards cost of community defibrillator
A cake shop has raised more than £900 towards the cost of a community accessible defibrillator.
Staff at All Mine Cakes in Maythorne began the fundraiser after a customer became unwell in their tearoom.
However, the nearest accessible defibrillator was a five-minute drive away in Southwell.
Hayley Schofield, from All Mine Cakes, said: “Thankfully everyone is safe and well, however, it highlighted the rural location of Maythorne, its community and the number of visitors who visit us, plus who access the Southwell Trail which is also Cycling Network Route 645.”
The team have already managed to raise £960 towards their £2,000 target.
However, they do not want to stop there and already have plans for if they beat their original target.
“I would love it to go beyond that and do something positive for the community,” Hayley said.
“It’s brilliant. I am so taken aback.”
Any additional money from the fundraiser will be given to Southwell Community Responders to support the running costs of existing defibrillators around the town.
Mario Stankovic from Southwell Community Responders said: “I do think it’s very important, especially to have them publicly accessible. This means that the public can go to it even if the place is closed.
“I went them to be accessible 24/7. If you can get a defibrillator to a patient within five minutes, you’ve got a 50% chance of it working. If it’s ten minutes, there’s only a 20% chance.
“That’s why we’re trying to get as many around as possible.”
