Calls for Newark and Sherwood District Council to conduct spending review of the National Civil War Centre and Palace Theatre in Newark
Calls have been made for a council to conduct a review after it underestimated its budget for two Newark town centre attractions.
Paul Peacock, Newark and Sherwood District Council Labour Group leader, said four years ago the council predicted the National Civil War Centre and Palace Theatre would cost £549,730 of taxpayers’ money in 2020-21.
However, at the budget setting earlier this month, where council tax was increased by 2.9%, £726,830 was made available — sparking the criticism from Mr Peacock.
