Students to explore future careers at Newark and Sherwood District Council’s seventh annual Future First Expo
Over 1,000 students are set to explore educational and career opportunities at an annual expo.
The seventh Future First Expo will be held on Thursday, November 14, and will be a valuable opportunity for children aged 11 to 13 to scratch the surface of their exciting futures.
First set up in 2017 by Newark and District Sherwood Council, in partnership with Lincoln College and the Newark Advertiser, the expo continues to allow the area’s pupils to explore the wide range of career paths and educational opportunities available to them after leaving school.
John Deere, the event’s sponsor for the fourth consecutive year, will showcase their apprenticeship programme, offering insights into the opportunities available at their training academy in Upper Saxondale.
Also holding stalls at the event will be the Barcode Warehouse, Duncan and Toplis, Skanska and RWE, with representatives from the British Armed Forces and police.
Training and education providers include Newark College, University of Nottingham, Nottingham Trent University and West Notts College.
There is still an opportunity for other Newark-area businesses, training providers or further education organisations to have a stand at this year’s Future First Career Expo, and organisations should contact Newark and Sherwood District Council to ensure their place is secured.
The aim of the exhibition is to improve the aspirations of young people, helping them to feel informed and inspired about a number of careers paths in a relaxed yet informative setting.
The day will also allow the pupils to ask specific questions about their future and get advice from the area’s businesses leaders.
Claire Penny, the council’s portfolio holder for sustainable economic development, said: “The Future First careers expo has consistently proven to be an invaluable event for the young people in our community.
“Each year, it grows in scale, and it was truly inspiring to hear about the enthusiasm and proactive engagement of students and young people at last years’ expo. Their curiosity and eagerness to explore future opportunities was evident.”
“As we look forward to the upcoming Expo on Thursday, November 14, it was crucial that we, as a council, continue to invest in the aspirations and futures of our younger generation.
“By doing so, we empower them to make choices that align with their personal and professional goals.
“We are committed to supporting young people providing them with educational and employment opportunities and this event is a great way to help us achieve that aim.”
The event will be held at the Lady Eastwood Centre at Newark Showground.
