Case for schools
While the case brought by six councils, including Nottingham city, won no guarantees that money for the schools they represented would be reinstated, it has provided them with the opportunity to make a detailed case for it.
Providing the best possible opportunities for children — and that includes teaching them in buildings fit-for-purpose — should be beyond party politics.
Nottingham city and its allies have shown the way.
Now could be the time for the campaigners backing the Grove, Orchard and Magnus schools to call on Conservative-controlled Nottinghamshire County Council, and its lawyers, to take up the case on their behalf.

Another major employer has committed itself to Newark, with the promise of more jobs.
Vodafone is making its Newark operation a centre of business excellence.
The workforce here is expected to increase by around 300 to more than 800.
That’s more good news following last week’s announcement that the communications firm, Timico, was taking on an extra 150 staff.
These businesses recognise the many advantages Newark has to offer and their investments offer a ray of light in dark economic times.
