Angell Fisheries, located on Barnbygate, Newark, to celebrate National Fish and Chip Day on Friday June 6

This Friday is National Fish and Chip Day, and one of Newark’s award-nominated chippies is hosting their own special celebrations.

National Fish and Chip Day is observed annually on the first Friday of June, and this year Angell Fisheries, located on Barnbygate, will be celebrating the national day of recognition for the British staple on Friday (June 6).

Hot off their excellent top 10 finish at the National Fish and Chip Awards earlier this year, the business will be bringing back their ‘family fish supper’ for the day, where you can feed a family of four for £20.

Customers to the chip shop are invited to create their own ‘Forky’ character to display in the shop ahead of the event, and all children who returned a decorated Forky will receive a free meal of their choice and will be in with a chance of winning fish & chips for their family on National Fish & Chip Day 2025.

Customers who come along between 5pm and 7pm on Friday will also be treated to entertainment by Mr Twists, a professional balloon artist.

Co-owner Sophie Angell said: “I think in a world which is becoming more isolated it’s important that we come together as a community, connect and celebrate the little things in life.

“We had so much fun last year hosting our National Fish & Chip Day celebrations, we wanted to do something to bring people together again - which really is what Fish & Chips is all about!”
