Celebrations begin for the Queen's 90th Birthday
Schools and communities came together at the start of what promises to be a busy weekend to celebrate the Queen's 90th birthday.
Members of Newark's Hawtonville Methodist Church and guests toasted the Queen on Friday and sang the National Anthem.
Everyone wore a plastic Union Flag bowler hat and the room at the church was decorated with bunting and balloons.
Thelma Robinson, Fred Orton, Connie Marshall, Joyce Whitworth and Martha Donaldson were among those there and are all in their nineties.
The club meets on the second Friday of every month and has a guest speaker.Children at Christ Church Infant and Nursery School, Newark, gave a perfect rendition of the National Anthem before sitting down to tuck into their lunches at a street party in the playground.
Children, staff and governors were invited and many wore fancy dress or their smartest outfits.
The chairman of Newark and District Council, who is also chairman of governors at the school, Mr Tony Roberts (pictured) said: "What a lovely school and what a lovely rendition of the National Anthem - so crisp and clear.
"I'm honoured to be associated with it."
Pupils showed their artistic talent at Muskham Primary School as pupils recreated a portrait of the Queen.
They also designed their own crowns and planned their own royal garden party to celebrate the occasion.
The afternoon concluded with a street party held in their playground, featuring party games and refreshments.
Celebrations were held to coincide with the school's 50th birthday.
Archbishop Cranmer CofE Academy, Aslockton, and school community came together for a picnic lunch in the playground to celebrate and all sang happy birthday to Her Majesty.
There were also free coffee and cakes for customers at the Nottingham Building Society on the Market Place, Newark.
