Lack of late evening swimming provision in Active4Today's Newark Sports and Fitness Centre questioned
A lack of late-night swimming provision has been criticised.
A service user has questioned the evening swimming provision at Newark Sports and Fitness Centre, operated by Active4Today.
At present the leisure centre's latest timetabled public lane swim finishes at 8.30pm on Fridays.
Timetabled swimming sessions finish before 8pm five days a week, ending as early as 3.45pm on Thursdays.
The leisure centre had previously held late night swimming session, but it is claimed this was removed from the timetable due to covid-19 restrictions. The sessions have yet to be re-instated.
Southwell Leisure Centre, also operated by Active4Today, currently offers swimming until 9.30pm from Monday to Wednesday and until 9pm on Fridays, leading the Newark service user to question why the town does not have the same swimming provision.
It is claimed that the sessions were previously very popular.
Director of development at Active4Today Martin Picker said: "We continue to review our swimming, fitness class and activity programmes on a regular basis. We always consider customer demand and available space, all with a view to looking at the whole programme and this process is ongoing and has remained agile over the last 18 months as customer confidence continues to increase and users’ habits once again develop.
"Our next programming review will take place in July/August 2022 with a view to implementation in September/October 2022. The review will cover our swimming, fitness class and activity programmes in-line with the recovery of our membership base following covid-19."
