Changes at Bingham car parks at Newgate Street and Needham Street to be introduced from November 12
New measures to increase the availability of car parking spaces at a town’s car parks are set to be introduced.
From Tuesday (November 12), visitors to Bingham will be able to park for two hours at Newgate Street and Needham Street car parks for free, with a charge for longer stays.
The new tariffs will mean parking up to two hours will be free of charge — with a voucher collected from the ticket machine or with RingGo.
Parking up to three hours will now cost £1, up to four hours will cost £5, and over four hours will be £10.
Notices have also been displayed around the car parks to inform visitors of the changes, as the new charges will apply from Monday to Sunday, 8am to 6pm.
Free short term parking in the bays around the marketplace has already been introduced to improve availability, encouraging short stay rather than all day parking in the town centre.
Motorists can park in thes bays for 30 minutes on Thursday’s market day after 10am.
Nottinghamshire County Council are also progressing their own consultation process for similar changes to the on-street bays around the marketplace.
In addition, at Bingham Arena around 30 chargeable permit spaces have been made available for long stay parking aimed at staff working at businesses in the area.
Rushcliffe Borough Council’s cabinet worked in conjunction with the Bingham Car Parking Strategy Group to discuss proposals and shape the new tariffs.
The council took into account the views of residents and business owners balanced against the findings of surveys from car park users last year.
Portfolio holder for environment and safety, Rob Inglis, said: “We listened carefully to those who use the car parks and will now introduce these new measures from November 12.
“They focus on maximising the availability of spaces for short stay users and those who wish to stay longer, in line with data from car park users.
“The new tariffs for Newgate Street and Needham Street car parks will remain two hours free of charge with the needs of shoppers and visitors prioritised.
“Any funds received from car parking only meet the cost of the changes that are required such as new car park machines and contributing to the overall cost of maintaining the Borough’s car parks.”
Gareth Williams, Mayor of Bingham, said: “Having listened to the feedback received, we hope that residents and visitors to the town are able to access the town’s many services and businesses on offer with the availability of more short term parking spaces.”
