Electric car charging point idea for new-build homes in Newark and Sherwood
Plans to include an electric vehicle charging point in every home on new housing developments are among ideas to improve the environment and the community in Newark and Sherwood.
Residents of the district are being invited to have their say on this idea, and others, included in a proposed planning document produced by the district council.
It outlines the district’s approach to parking standards and design of parking provision for new homes in the area.
This includes information about the council’s parking requirements for bicycles and cars.
The council wants residents, landowners, developers, town and parish councils, registered housing providers and other interested parties to give their feedback before November 11.
The aim of the document is to provide high quality, attractive, well-designed places to live with safe and convenient parking provision.
It also wants to encourage people to cycle more for short trips, to boost their health and wellbeing, improve air quality and reduce fuel emissions and energy consumption.
The document also outlines plans to include electric vehicle charging facilities in every new housing development. Each home would be provided with one fast charge socket.
Roger Blaney, the council’s planning chairman, said: “We believe it will make a real positive difference for both the environment and the community.
“With the inclusion of electric chargers in every new build household and introducing more cycle-friendly streets we hope we can contribute to the Government’s target for the UK to bring all greenhouse gas emissions to net zero by 2050.
“We want to have a clear and transparent approach about these proposals and that’s why we are asking residents to feedback on the document. We would appreciate any comments on the document so we can ensure we can get this right so it suits the whole community.”
