Mental health charity Mind has relaunched following a £13,000 donation from numerous sources
A charity that helps hundreds of people with mental health problems is to relaunch services across the district.
Donations of more than £13,000 from businesses and individuals has created the funding needed to allow Mind to return more services to Newark and Sherwood in 2019.
Food company Bakkavor donated £8,000 while the grant-making trust the Thomas Far Trust gave £5,000.
Mind chief executive Nic Roberts said: “Firstly, we apologise that it has taken a while for the new programme to be developed.
“We have spent time making links with partners and consulting to ensure the services will meet the needs of the community.
“We are confident that we have a mix of provision that will assist people with their mental health needs and we hope that in time this will grow.
“The community and voluntary sector is picking up a large void within statutory provision and we are overwhelmed with the support we have received from the local community in terms of cash funding and support.
“We look forward to working in the district and Mind has a team of dedicated, highly trained and supportive staff that are eager to help.”
Monthly information clinics, already held across the county, will be introduced to Newark and Ollerton.
The clinics will be a self-referral service providing information, support and guidance to those with mental health issues.
People are offered a series of weekly sessions with a dedicated health professional who can offer support, referrals to other services and recovery plans.
A training and education team will be based at the Aura Centre, Newark. This will help to meet the increasing demand.
The programme will offer six weekly courses for individuals to access support on issues including, coping with change, understanding mental health conditions, building resilience and managing mental wellbeing within the workplace.
Other services available in the district in 2019 include a counselling and depression service at the Aura Centre, creative arts which is in partnership with the Dukeries Community Workshop in Ollerton, corporate training to businesses and workplaces and sport and physical activities as part of Minds Get Set to Go programme
Services in Newark were cut six months ago when the London Road site closed its doors to avoid running out of money.
Newark Mind then joined forces with Central Notts and Bassetlaw in October to create Nottinghamshire Mind.
