Southwell Minster View children's home closure could offer better care — Newark reader's letter

With regard to the Minster View story Dismay At Home Closure Proposal (Advertiser, December 9).

While I completely agree with the view that Nottinghamshire County Council is not acting in the children’s best interest, and out-of-area placements are unacceptable, especially for those resident with close family ties, I believe the present situation may present an opportunity to closely look at (read: push for) the possibilities for well-funded care in the community with individual care plans — which actually further the individual’s capacity and potential for development.

There are professional models to make this an excellent opportunity.
