Christmas light switch-on on Newark Market Place organised by Newark Town Council includes free car parking in all council car parks during the festive season

Christmas light switch-on times have been revealed with extra free parking during festive season weekends.

The free event organised by Newark Town Council in Newark Market Place will take place on November 26 from 11am to 5pm.

The event kicks off the festive season with fun activities, music performers, food trucks and 130 market stalls bustling with Christmas wreaths, mulled wines, ciders and artisan crafts.

The popular countdown and lights switch is set to occur between 4.45pm and 4.55pm followed by a five-minute fireworks display.

Familiar names such as School Choirs, Newark Town Band, Just Sing, Newark Violin School, Jack Brett, The Business, Alex Jones, Sammy and the Dolphins and Band from County Hell will be lifting the town's spirit with music throughout the day at the Music Stage in the market.

A traditional Christmas market is taking place on December 9 from 9am to 3.30pm and a traditional and Steampunk Christmas market will be on market place on December 10 from 10am to 6pm.

Market stalls are currently fully booked for the market on the day of the Christmas Lights Switch On in the Market Place on November 26 and over 100 traders will be at the Christmas markets on December 9 and 10.

All council car parks will be free every Saturday and Sunday from November 26 until December 31.
