Reader’s letter: Christmas ‘present’ returned
Today I received the annual payment of the Christmas present for pensioners of £10 from the government.
I am going to send it back to Rachel Reeves protesting that it is “an insult to injury” after cutting our Winter Fuel Payment.
This lady receives a clothing allowance as well as her annual salary.
MPs also receive a subisidised food allowance in the House of Commons.
They gave the Train Drivers another pay rise. They receive nearly £70,000 a year.
Our pension is well below the National Living Wage but we need to be able to live.
I worked 51 years of my life to be insulted by a pittance of a pension that for the poorest leaves them having to be humiliated by a means tested benefit.
It's about time we Pensioners were treated with respect and dignity. Our pension is not a benefit, it’s a right. — BRENDA COX, via email.
