Climate ironies

By NewarkAdvertiser Reporter

I wonder if readers have noticed another of the quirks and ironies of climate change.

At a time when the US is leaving the Paris Agreement on climate change, it is clear that it has achieved by far the largest reduction in its carbon dioxide emissions in the developed world by its switch to burning gas rather than coal while the other signatories continue to increase their own outputs of both coal and carbon dioxide gas.

In the UK, we have succeeded in reducing our outputs of useful industrial carbon dioxide with the effect that there may be a significant shortage of ‘gassy’ beers during the summer hot weather and the World Cup.

It does not seem right somehow. — Robert Sheppard, Hillside, Beckingham.
