Close shave for tour

A singer in the Southwell Minster Choir will today shave off the beard he has had for 30 years to raise money for a choir tour to Italy.

Mr Guy Turner, 55, has raised almost £200.

He said: “I am going to feel very uncomfortable without the beard, but it seemed a good way of raising some money and the choristers are certainly getting maximum enjoyment out of anticipating my new face.”

The money will go towards the minster lay clerk’s tour to Venice in July when they will sing in St Mark’s Cathedral and the Doge’s Palace.

They need to raise about £2,500 for the trip.

A fundraising concert takes place at Holy Trinity Church, Lambley, on Saturday, April 30.
