Closure shame

By NewarkAdvertiser Reporter

I was so sorry to read about the closure of the Norwell Scout Group (Call For Beaver Group To Return To Village, Advertiser, April 19).

My children attended the group and enjoyed the camaraderie, as well as learning new skills.

It seems a shame that such a long-standing group with a high level of support from the community should be closed, particularly as there seems to be an enthusiastic group of children wanting to keep it going. The question surely has to be why?

I cannot follow Mr Graeme Hood’s reasoning. He says the group has closed because of “concerns over sustainability” — and yet there were active Scouts, Cubs and Beavers. — S. HILL, Norwell (Full address supplied).
