Comic's time to make a stand
An up and coming female comedian from Newark has been given a slot at Funhouse Comedy’s show in the town on Thursday.
Tracey Warriner (26) of Mather Road, Newark, works as an IT technician at the Grove School, Balderton.
She decided to try comedy for the first time in September when she took part in an event in Grantham organised to find new talent.
Entrants were each given up to five minutes to impress five judges. Those not up to scratch were stopped before the end.
Tracey was allowed to complete her session but did not get through to the final.
That encouraged her to try at two other similar events where she again completed five minutes but did not make the finals.
The events were held by Funhouse Comedy, which organises comedy evenings in Newark.
Thursday’s show will be at the Thanal Restaurant function room on St Mark’s Lane, and will feature musical comedian James Sherwood, along with Danny McLoughlin, who was a finalist in the Chortle Student Comedian of the Year.
Tracey, who uses material from her experiences of trying to lose weight and visits to her GP, said it was a nerve-wracking experience standing up before an audience but she was looking forward to performing in Newark.
“I just love comedy and making people laugh,” she said.
“It will be great to take part in my first proper gig and know that I can have a full five minutes without the fear of being stopped before the end.”
The show starts at 9pm. Tickets are £5 in advance or free if a meal is booked at the restaurant before the show.
