Sutton-on-Trent Community Centre thriving on its return after £100,000 was pumped into project
The opening of a community centre worth more than £100,000 has brought life back to the community.
A revamped sports and community centre in Sutton-on-Trent opened its doors to the public just over eight months ago.
Reflecting on its time in 2019, the funding team said the process had been a huge success.
The centre, on Grassthrope Road, was funded by the village’s residents, who started raising money as early as 2005, when the centre fell into poor condition.
It is now home to more than five sports clubs and hosts numerous village activities and events.
“Since we re-opened in April the centre has gone from strength to strength,” said secretary Arron Smith.
“Our bookings have increased ten fold on previous years with private parties, children’s birthdays, fun days and dog shows.
“Our resident football team, Sutton-on-Trent Tornadoes, have also seen a boost to their recruitment with their first ever team and a successful soccer school.
“The FALLS Group, whose purpose is to combat social isolation in the elderly, love the new facilities as it is warm and clean with access to disabled toilets.
“We have also added junior tennis classes to our site, which is growing in popularity.
“Our resident fitness group is also going strong too.”
Arron wanted to thank the sponsors involved, who helped the refurbishment process.
