Wetherpoons' Sir John Arderne in Market Place, Newark, to close

The closure of Newark's only Wetherspoons pub has been confirmed by the company.

Staff were told yesterday that the Sir John Arderne near Newark Market Place was to shut.

A Wetherspoons spokesman said: “There will be no redundancies as all staff will be offered jobs at other Wetherspoon pubs in the region once the pub closes.

“We appreciate all the customers over the years and the hard work of the staff at the pub.”

Wetherspoons refused to comment on the reasons for closure at this stage.

No closing date has yet been given.

The pub will continue to trade as normal until its closure.
