Construction company Gusto Group challenges Newark MP Robert Jenrick to focus on environmentally-friendly homes
The owner of a construction company has challenged Housing Minister Robert Jenrick, to put policies in place to ensure all new homes are built to the highest environmentally-friendly standards.
Steff Wright, chief executive of Gusto Group, wants the Newark MP visit Gusto’s solar-powered homes of the future in Collingham.
Mr Wright said a key topic of discussion would be the growing threat to the climate.
Mr Wright’s development at Collingham is of the most progressive homes in the UK.
He has been at the forefront of the design and development of eco homes for more than 20 years.
“We have gained so much knowledge over 20 years and have been frustrated by the lack of any real drive from governments to push up the performance standards,” he said.
“With the increased awareness of climate chaos, I would hope that our local politicians would be keen to ensure Newark is at the heart of developing the technologies and expertise needed to roll out low-energy homes across the UK, which will add value to the local economy, with more highly-skilled jobs.”
The Gusto Group has partnered with Lincoln and Newark College to set up the ECOnstruction centre of excellence to train apprentices and construction professionals in the new technologies required to build the homes of the future.
“We have created The Home Of The Future right here in Collingham for everyone to come and see,” he said.
“The home combines passive solar design, which minimises energy use, with technologies that enhance people’s lifestyle.
“The home will be fitted out with a wide range of environmentally-sustainable products, down to the type of cleaning products that people will use if they want to minimise their personal impact on the environment.
“The future is happening now and, in our aptly-named development called The Future, we are proving that businesses can and should be driving up standards and should only build homes that are future-proofed, creating flexible and low carbon living for all ages.”
The Home of The Future is open to see with Mr Wright and team in attendance.
