Newark: the Oaks Care Home residents judge Balderton Village Day Nursery colouring competition in aid of International Nurses' Day

Residents of a care home have helped judge a children’s colouring competition.

Youngsters from Balderton Village Day Nursery were invited to take part in a colouring competition to mark International Nurses’ Day.

Their entries were sent to The Oaks Care Home in the village where residents decided the winners.

The winners each received a certificate, a set of colouring pencils and some crayons (48224881)

They selected Harriet, 3, and Roux, 4, who each received a certificate and a set of colouring pencils and crayons.

Katrina Rick, the home’s manager, said: “We have really missed seeing the nursery children as they used to come and visit us regularly before the pandemic.

“It’s so important for our residents to stay connected to people in our community and we have had to find new ways of doing this while visiting restrictions have been in place.

“We are so looking forward to seeing our little friends again.”

The Oaks Care Home, on London Road, provides residential, nursing, respite and palliative care and support for mental health and learning disabilities.

Resident Judith Craven, 83, said: “The children have done brilliantly colouring in the pictures and I’m glad we have found a way to stay in touch with them, although it’s not the same as seeing them all face to face. I can’t wait to see them all again.”

Another resident, 87 year-old Trevor Brown, said: “Receiving all the pictures have really put a smile on our faces and it was so hard to choose the winners. They all did a smashing job and should be very proud of themselves.”
