Coronavirus: William Gladstone Church of England Primary Academy closed today for deep clean after staff member self-isolates with cough and temperature




A school has closed until Monday for a deep clean after a staff member self-isolated with a cough and temperature.

William Gladstone Church of England Primary Academy, Holden Crescent, said the person has not yet been diagnosed with coronavirus and that the deep clean was a precaution.

It said on its Facebook page the school would reopen on Monday as normal and the member of staff would stay away.

Headteacher Sarah Clarke wrote in a statement: "Dear parents, I have just learnt that a member of staff is self-isolating as they have a cough and a temperature.

"Whilst this is undiagnosed as the coronavirus, we are closing tomorrow to deep clean as a precaution.

"School will reopen on Monday as normal and the member of staff will stay away. I am so sorry if this causes any inconvenience but I feel that this is the right decision in the circumstances.

"We will, of course, update you regularly as we get more information. Please remember the staying safe rules of good and regular hand washing."
