Several Rushcliffe carparks receive Park Mark award that recognises safer parking areas

A number of carparks have received a prestigious safer parking award.

Some across Rushcliffe received the Park Mark — the accolade that recognises carparks with measures in place to actively deter crime and the fear of crime.

Bridgford Road, Gordon Road, Nursery and Rushcliffe Arena carparks in West Bridgford; Needham Street carpark in Bingham; Bunny Lane carpark in Keyworth; and Rushcliffe Country carpark have passed a rigorous risk assessment conducted by the police and the British Parking Association.

They include passing management and maintenance standards of the facility, ensuring there are appropriate levels of surveillance, lighting, signage and cleanliness. These criteria are known to reduce the opportunity for crime and create a safer environment for motorists and their vehicles.

Nottinghamshire Police designing out crime officer Boguslawa Motylska said: “It is a pleasure to see security standards as high as those demonstrated by the Rushcliffe carparks.

"The combination of measures installed in each facility follows the principles of crime prevention through environmental design that are known to reduce the risk of crime.”

Peter Gravells, British Parking Association area manager, said: “I am delighted that Rushcliffe carparks are achieving the Park Mark award as it demonstrates the hard work and commitment to providing a safe environment for users.

“Each carpark undergoes a rigorous assessment by specially trained police assessors. Those achieving the award have management practices and security measures that actively reduce crime. They look safer, they feel safer and they are safer.”

The car parks are part of only a quarter nationally to have received the accreditation.

Park Mark helps drivers tell the difference with its bright blue box and big white tick signage designed to stand out, giving drivers assurance they are choosing a safer place to park.

Personal safety and location have been cited as joint priorities when choosing where to park. There are currently 5,000 carparks with the Park Mark award throughout the UK, which can be found at www.parkmark.co.uk
