Newark and Sherwood District Council launch new Community Chest funding scheme

Community projects in Newark and Sherwood may be eligible for £1,000 of extra funding through a new scheme.

The district council is encouraging projects that aim to make social housing areas cleaner, safer and greener

Tim Wendels, chairman of homes and communities committee, said: “Community Chest grants will support people working right at the beating heart of their community.”

Grants can be used to support projects that will specifically improve amenities in or around social housing areas with the aim of resolving community-identified issues such as reducing anti-social behaviour, supporting safety and security measures, increasing well-being and mental health of tenants, waste management, litter and dog fouling, helping vulnerable groups or individuals and supporting tenants into education or volunteering opportunities.
