Reader’s letter: Councillors must listen to majority

Regarding Peter Duncan’s letter of last week (Thankful For Courage Of The Convictions).
I have always understood councillors are elected to represent their residents and voice their opinions, especially when they are voiced in an expensive public consultation.
Elected representatives’ (councillors) opinions should be respected but not acted upon when the people that chose them at the ballot box have a different opinion, especially when it involves the spending of large amounts of public funds.
I have great respect for some of our councillors but too many seem to have their own agenda.
A good politician is a politician that listens and reacts to the majority. — Mike Frettsome, via email.
